Records Stored Off-Site

Customers interested in researching any of the Copyright Records are advised to contact the Copyright Reading Room at 1(877) 476-0778 before visiting the James Madison Building. Many records are stored in off-site locations, and advance notice is needed to retrieve these materials for research use.

    The copyright records in the historical record books include registrations, renewals, assignments, notices of use of musical compositions, and other related records, including patent records from 1870-1940.

    The catalog enables users to identify original copyright registration records and other U.S. Copyright Office records from 1870 through 1977.
