Project Status
A detailed analysis of the Copyright card catalog records was completed in 2010 and scanning commenced. As of June 2014 over 30 million cards were scanned in uncompressed tagged image file format (TIFF) at a minimum of 300 pixels per inch (ppi) in 24 bit color. This scanning phase of approximately 36 million cards was completed in September 2014.
The second phase of the project is to test OCR options to create metadata for our card catalog. This will be done in three steps: first, creation of JPEG or JPEG2000 format files; second, the records will be scanned and metadata captured and exported to an Excel file; finally, the cards will be individually reviewed and data perfected. Once the data are perfected, they will be merged into existing online catalog.
