Group Registration for Two-Dimensional Artwork

The U.S. Copyright Office has established a new group registration option for two-dimensional artwork—such as paintings, sketches, logos—that can be registered with one application and one filing fee. The option, known as Group Registration for Two-Dimensional Artwork or GR2D, will enable creators and artists to register a group of published two-dimensional artwork by submitting a deposit comprising one complete digital copy of each work within the group.

Under this option, an applicant may register up to twenty two-dimensional artworks, all created by the same author and with the same copyright claimant. The works must all be published within the same calendar year. Applicants will be required to provide only the earliest and most recent publication dates for the works within the group. If the Office registers the claim, the registration will cover each work as a separate work of authorship. The registration certificate will include an annotation that all works in the group were determined to meet the legal and formal requirements for registration, including that each contains a sufficient amount of original pictorial and graphic authorship.

The final rule takes effect on February 17, 2026 to coincide with the expected completion of related system development and educational resources. Instructions for completing the application will be provided on the GR2D webpage when this option becomes available.
