Group Registration of Updates to a News Website (GRNW)

The Copyright Office has implemented a new group registration option for updates to a news website. This option is known as GRNW. It may be used to register two or more published updates to a news website within the same calendar month, provided that all eligibility requirements are met.

A “news website” is a website that is designed to be a primary source of written information on current events, either local, national, or international in scope, that contains a broad range of news on all subjects and activities and is not limited to any specific subject matter.

Applicants are required to use a new application form specifically designed for this group option and must submit the application and required deposit copies through the electronic Copyright Office (eCO) registration portal. This registration option was made available on July 22, 2024.
