Sharon Farmer served as director of the White House Photography Office from 1999–2001. A White House photographer since 1993, she documented the Clinton-Gore Administration at its beginning. She has been a professional photojournalist and exhibition photographer for more than forty years, shooting news stories, political campaigns, cultural events, conferences, and portraits. Over the years, she has photographed for the Washington Post, the Smithsonian Institution, The American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the National Urban League, the Brookings Institution, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to name a few. In 2016, Farmer received the Karsh Award at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Robert Levine is a journalist who writes for Billboard, Businessweek, the New York Times, and other publications about the digital media business, as well as copyright and privacy. He is the author of Free Ride: How Digital Parasites Are Destroying the Culture Business and How the Culture Business Can Fight Back, and he has spoken about online legal issues in Washington, DC, London, Brussels, and Berlin. He frequently writes for Billboard, where he was previously executive editor. He has worked as an editor for Wired, New York, and Rolling Stone, and contributed to Vanity Fair, Fortune, and The Wall Street Journal.

Tom Curley is a former newspaper journalist who attended Georgetown University Law Center. He currently serves as associate general counsel for Gannett, which publishes USA Today and more than 100 local news sites. He is responsible for advising journalists with respect to libel, access, copyright, and First Amendment matters. He also manages the company’s content-related litigation.

Jonathan Band helps shape the laws governing intellectual property and the internet through a combination of legislative and appellate advocacy. He has represented clients with respect to the drafting of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), and other federal and state statutes relating to intellectual property and the internet. He has also represented clients in connection with treaty and trade negotiations. He is an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center and has written extensively on intellectual property and the internet, including the books Interfaces on Trial, Interfaces on Trial 2.0, Interfaces on Trial 3.0, and more than 100 articles. In 2017, he received the American Library Association’s L. Ray Patterson Copyright Award, which recognizes an individual who has supported the constitutional purpose of the copyright law, fair use, and the public domain. He received a BA, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1982 from Harvard College, and a JD from Yale Law School in 1985.

Michael Carroll is a professor of law and director of the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property at American University Washington College of Law. His research and teaching specialties are intellectual property law and cyberlaw, focusing on the search for balance in the face of challenges posed by new technologies. He is a founding member of Creative Commons, Inc. and serves on the Board of Directors of the Public Library of Science. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago, AB, Anthropology, and the Georgetown University Law Center.
