Help: Change Application

If you determine that the work you are registering is not eligible for registration on the eCO Single application, you may switch to the Standard application format by clicking the “Change Application” button on the Title, Author, or Claimant screens.  The format can be changed from Single to Standard at any time prior to fee payment.

Reasons for changing the application include:

  • More than one work will be registered on this application
  • The work was created by more than one author, (i.e. more than one performer, writer, artist, photographer, actor, etc.)
  • The work is a “work made for hire
  • There is more than one copyright claimant
  • Ownership of the copyright in the work has been transferred from the author to one or more other claimants
  • The work is a joint work
  • Registration sought for multiple versions of a work
  • The work is a collective work (e.g. serial publication or anthology)
  • The work is a database, website, or choreography

Please note the following:

  • Once you have changed to the Standard application format, you can not return to a Single application format for this claim.
  • Any information you have entered on the Single application Title, Author, or Claimant screens will be deleted and must be reentered on the Standard application; information on all other completed screens will be saved.

Note: Using the Single application to file a claim that does not meet the following criteria will result in delays:

  • There is only one work being registered (e.g., one song, one poem, one photograph)
  • The work was created by one author who is an individual person, rather than a company or organization
  • There is only one claimant who is the same individual person as the author
  • The work is not a “work made for hire
  • The application must be submitted by the author/claimant OR an authorized third party who lists itself as the correspondent.
