Office Extends Comment Period
The Copyright Office is extending the time period
for filing comments regarding the interpretation and application of the
mechanical and digital phonorecord compulsory license, 17
U.S.C. 115, to certain digital music services in light of the settlement
agreement between the Recording Industry Association, Inc., the National
Music publishers Association, and the Harry Fox Agency. (See NewsNet
141, 66 FR 64783.)
Comments are now due on February 6, 2002. The date for filing reply comments,
February 27, 2002, remains unchanged.
On January 31, 2002, the Office expects to publish
a notice in the Federal Register announcing the extension of the comment
period.
