Copyright Office Announces Cost of Living Adjustment
for Performance of Musical Compositions by Colleges and Universities
The Copyright Office of the Library of Congress
announces a cost of living adjustment of 2.1 percent in the royalty rates
paid by colleges, universities, or other nonprofit educational institutions
that are not affiliated with National Public Radio for the use of copyrighted
published nondramatic musical compositions. The cost of living adjustment
is based on the change in the Consumer Price Index from October 2000 to
October 2001. This adjustment is effective January 1, 2002. (read

Copyright Office Receives Request to Retract Prior
Filings of Notices of Intent to Enforce Restored Copyrights
The Copyright Office announces that it has received
notification of a request to retract the filing of certain Notices of
Intent to Enforce (NIEs) restored copyrights under the Uruguay Round Agreements
Act. The effect of this publication is to comply with a judicial order
in pending litigation concerning ownership of certain rights by publishing
the Authors Rights Restoration Corporation's request to retract all filings
in any way related to the 81 listed films. (read
