Copyright Office Issues Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Designation of Agent by Online Service Provider; Requests Comments
Issue No. 432 - September 28, 2011
The Copyright Office is issuing a notice of proposed rulemaking and soliciting public comment on its proposals to revise its regulations governing the designation by online service providers of agents to receive notifications of claimed copyright infringement as provided for in the Copyright Act. The proposed revision would provide for online submission, amendment and periodic verification of the information in the directory of agents of online service providers maintained by the Copyright Office, and a searchable online database of online service provider agents. To enable the transition to the online database and to ensure the accuracy and currency of the information in the database, all online service providers would be required to submit new designations online, and the existing directory would be retired after one year. Written comments are due November 28, 2011. Reply comments are due December 27, 2011.
