Copyright Office Extends Due Date for Comments and Reply Comments on Section 302 Report on Marketplace Solutions to Statutory Licensing

On March 3, 2011, the Copyright Office published a notice of inquiry (NOI) regarding the study required under section 302 of the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act of 2010. See 76 F.R. 11816. Comments and reply comments in response to the NOI were scheduled to be due on April 18, 2011, and May 18, 2011, respectively. On April 6, 2011, the Office received a motion for extension of time from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) to extend both the comment and reply comment dates by one week. The Office is granting the NAB’s request so that comments are now due on April 25, 2011, and reply comments are now due on May 25, 2011. In the event the federal government is shut down on April 25, 2011, the new deadline will be 5:00 p.m. on the first business day after the government resumes operation pursuant to section 703 of the copyright law. A Federal Register notice announcing the extension of time request has been submitted to the Federal Register and will be published in accordance with its schedule. (Read more.)
