Rulemaking Proceedings Under Section 1201 of Title 17

The Copyright Office has initiated the tenth triennial rulemaking proceeding under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), Title 17, section 1201, of the United States Code. More information is available on the Tenth Triennial Section 1201 Proceeding webpage.

For the tenth triennial rulemaking, the Office will employ the streamlined process for renewing existing exemptions used in previous cycles. Renewed exemptions remain in force for an additional three-year period (October 2027–October 2030). For more information, see our informational guides on this page.
