COPYRIGHT OFFICE PUBLISHES UPDATED EDITION OF LAW-TITLE 17 OF U.S.C.

An updated version of the Copyright Office's Circular 92, "Copyright Law of the United States and Related Laws Contained in Title 17 of the United States Code," is now available in paperback through the Government Printing Office (GPO) or online here.

The 300-page volume contains the text of title 17 of the United States Code, including all amendments enacted through the end of the second session of the 107th Congress in 2002. It includes the Copyright Act of 1976 and all subsequent amendments to the copyright law; the Semiconductor Chip Protection Act of 1984, as amended; and the Vessel Hull Design Protection Act, as amended. The Copyright Office is responsible for registering claims under all three.

COPYRIGHT OFFICE PUBLISHES FINAL REGULATIONS THAT WILL GOVERN DESIGNATED AGENT SOUNDEXCHANGE

The Copyright Office is announcing the final regulations that will govern SoundExchange, an unincorporated division of the Recording Industry Association of America Inc., when it functions as the designated agent for the purpose of receiving royalty payments and statements of accounts from nonexempt subscription digital transmission services that make digital transmissions of sound recordings under a statutory license. These regulations are applicable to the initial license period that began on November 1, 1995, and ended on December 31, 2001. Terms governing the administrative functions of SoundExchange or any other agent designated to receive and distribute royalty fees under the statutory license during the next license period are the subject of an ongoing proceeding and will be announced at a future time.
