Not to Be Missed: U.S. Copyright Office World IP Day Program on April 28
Issue No. 577 - April 14, 2015

The U.S. Copyright Office will partner with the Copyright Alliance for the fourth time for a Copyright Matters program in recognition of World Intellectual Property Day. This year’s theme, as announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization, is “Get up, stand up. For music.” The program will take place on Tuesday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. in the Montpelier Room (6th Floor, James Madison Memorial Building, Library of Congress).

The program will feature presentations by Sandra Aistars, Chief Executive Officer of the Copyright Alliance; Sarang (Sy) Damle, Deputy General Counsel at the Copyright Office; and Erik Bertin, Deputy Director of Registration Policy and Practice at the Copyright Office.  Catie Rowland, Senior Advisor to the Register, will moderate. The presenters will discuss a number of interesting music issues, including how musicians and composers are creating in the modern age, the Copyright Office’s recent music licensing study, and novel issues that arise in the registration process for sound recordings and compositions.

As celebrated around the globe, World Intellectual Property Day (officially April 26) marks the date in 1970 when the World Intellectual Property Organization Convention came into force. The anniversary of this occasion is observed as a way of promoting and increasing general understanding of intellectual property.

The program is free and open to the public.
